Ilene Evans

Ilene is an energetic, vibrant, original performing artist. She uses movement, poetry, story, song, rhythm and rhyme in telling her tales. Ilene specializes in multicultural tales inspired by a rich Affrilachian life and all its folklore. She creates educational theater programs and workshops that span a vast range of arts and humanities as artistic director of the theater company Voices from the Earth. Ilene gives workshops in the theater arts focused on integrating the disciplines. Her historical portrayals include women who have made a difference in the world and inspired others. Such characters include Harriet Tubman, Bessie Coleman, Ethel Waters,  Memphis Tennessee Garrison, and Coralie Franklin Cook. Ms. Evans has taught, lectured, and performed nationally and internationally. Ms. Evans received her B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois and her master’s degree in storytelling at East Tennessee State University.
